Former Nigerian goalkeeper Raymond King is dead

– King was a veteran Nigerian goalie who played for Shooting Stars of Ibadan Nigerian football fraternity have been hit with a tragedy following the death of former youth international goalkeeper Raymond King. King was confirmed dead on Monday, January 1 at the Lagos state Teaching Hospital, and his death has thrown many Nigerian League followers into serious mourning. He was said to have been receiving treatment in the hospital for the past three weeks, but sadly, his condition never improved until his demise at the age of 52.
He was in goal for Shooting Stars in 1984 when the Oluyole Warriors entered the final of the CAF Champions League, but lost to Egyptian club Zamalek. King was at his best in the 1987 FA Cup final helping defunct Abiola Babe to win the title. The former goalkeeper was part of the Flying Eagles squad in 1979/80 hailed from Akwa Ibom state, and he was said to have worked with the Ogun State Sports Council but had been relieved of his duties long before his death.
