Former Africa Footballer of the Year, Emmanuel Amuneke has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles not just picking a Russia 2018 World Cup ticket, but also performing well at the global event next year.
The team is at the brink of being the first African side to pick a 2018 World Cup ticket if it beat Zambia on Saturday.
Amuneke, who scored Nigeria’s winning goal against Zambia in the 1994 Africa Nations’ Cup victory and replicated the feat in Nigeria’s defeat of Argentina to become the first team outside Europe to win the gold medal of the Olympic Games in 68 years has likened the current Super Eagles to that of 1994 set.
Emmanuel Amuneke at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations final match wrecked Zambia with his brace.
The 1994 set which was the first Nigerian side to win the Africa Nations Cup outside the home soil and also the first to qualify for the World Cup is widely believed to be Nigeria’s all-time best.
He told Sports Village Square that he is tipping the team to beat Zambia on Saturday.
The former Barcelona striker in a telephone conversation with Sports Village Square said he won’t be surprised seeing Super Eagles winning even by wide margin.
Hear the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning coach: “I won’t be surprise seeing Eagles wining with high goal margin against the Zambians.
“Aside individual talents, the present team is good enough to face any team in the World just like we did in 1994.
“I see the present set of Eagles’ attackers as the best we have produced in recent years. Seeing them dazzle and playing with zeal since the match day 1 of the competition speaks volume.
